1. What is an exhaust pressure sensor?

 


Exhaust pressure sensors allow for temperature measurement of exhaust gases. In the form of a small probe, it can communicate directly with the car's ECU for adjustment.


For gasoline engines, the pressure sensor is mainly used to detect possible overheating conditions. In the era of forced downsizing, we have very small engines capable of delivering high power. The turbocharger has the ideal operating pressure. The pressure sensor ensures that the value is constant.


In the case of diesel engines, the purpose of the pressure sensor is to maintain the life of the diesel particulate filter. To prevent filter clogging, regular regeneration cycles are required. This means that the DPF has to reach the optimum operating temperature in order to effectively burn off the fine particles. Exhaust gas pressure sensors can detect this. It is not uncommon to install up to three sensors along the exhaust line to ensure that everything is working properly! The engine light comes on when a fault occurs. 2. Where are the sensors located?

3. How to diagnose a faulty exhaust pressure sensor

If the ECU is no longer receiving the correct information from the sensor, the engine light may be displayed. A tripped diagnostic unit displaying errors such as P0544, P0546, P2033, P247A, P0549, or P2031 is a symptom of a faulty exhaust pressure sensor: the EGR system may malfunction so that pollutant emissions from the engine emissions cannot be measured correctly, and can indicate an emission control fault.

If the sensor sends an error message to the ECU, the regeneration cycle of the DPF may no longer take place or, on the contrary, may be excessive and penalize driving; excessive consumption: If the FAP is over-regenerated, excessive consumption may be observed. 4. How to test the exhaust pressure sensor

 


1) Check any fault codes using the diagnostic case.


2) If no abnormal codes are displayed, proceed to check the connector for excessive corrosion, abnormal twisting, or looseness. Unplug the sensor and clean it thoroughly to remove any potential grease deposits that may affect its operation.


3) The voltage on the sensor connector can be measured, which should be 5 volts. If abnormalities are found, it is best to replace the sensor.
